   THE RESISTANCE

James 4:7 NIV-

Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

CLEARING YOUR VISION

I John 2:16 KJV reads

“For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.”

Part 2 is about CLEARING YOUR VISION

FOCUS:

All that glitters isn’t gold

The Lust of the eyes refers to materialism and the desire to possess what we can see. It refers to those things that typically have visual appeal. It is coveting material things such as houses, cars, money, clothing, symbols of status, or even visually lusting after people. The lust of the eyes is a major problem for many and the desire to keep up with the world’s standard is a growing pressure for those with an untrained eye to recognize those things that are spiritual.

What we see in this life, can be very deceptive in perceived value. As people, we are constantly bombarded with advertisements and marketing to program our minds. We visually consume a great deal through the internet and social media. The outcome can be like poison.  The world dictates what is in this year and what is out. What looks good and what does not. What is the newest purchase you need to make because everyone has one. Why the brand new cell phone that you purchased 3 months ago is now too old. Just take a moment to look at old photos to see how much things have not only changed, but have also recycled. There are some trends that have come back that were popular 20 years ago.

Lust of the eyes can also include the need to have specific positions and titles. There are many who believe that coming into possession of a title will make them suddenly become more important in the eyes of others. It is a matter of self-esteem. Titles and positions do not make people. Once they reach their desired title, people discover that it did not grant them the fulfillment that they wished to have. After the initial thrill is gone, they remain unhappy.  To know who you are in Christ and to know that you are God approved will help you realize that positions and titles have no bearing on your God given purpose, assignment, or importance. The world gathers it’s crowds to make what is not important seem important. It is our job as believers to resist this world view.

All that glitters isn’t gold. All that looks good may not be good for you and can truly affect you in many negative ways . We need to have clear vision. Those things that appear to be blessings and are called blessings can very well be a curse in disguise. It is those same things that can cause addictions and take away many valuable years of your life. Pray that God leads you to realize what is truly valuable and helps you to resist what the world presents as the status quo. Let us pray that we are not consumed with what we see around us and help us to gain spiritual sight and insight.
